ORP / Bike Check

Updated: Oct 5, 2019

When I first decided to get back into BMX back in the end of 2017, I went to visit Chris Rickard at ORP. I've known Chris for about 20 years. We first met back in the late 90's at a track in Humble. Chris has been in the BMX industry most of his life. He's seen and been a part of a lot of different BMX eras. His shop, ORP, is on the west side at 4916 Highway 6 N, Houston, TX 77084.

After catching up with Chris, we discussed the build and went with one of his Rickard Bikes custom frames in trans red. The frame is built using similar geometry and specifications to that of a Standard 125R. The Rickard frame has a 21.5" top tube and would serve me well as a dirt, race or ramp bike. We decided on the components and wheel selection, I gave him a deposit and let him do his thing. A few parts had to be ordered, so it was going to take a couple weeks to get it finished.

Chris was cool about keeping me updated, so once some progress was made I stopped in. And, as expected, the bike was looking good and would be finished in a few days once the final pieces were in.

Well, the day came and Chris text me that it was ready. I went over after work and the bike was sick! All of the colors we chose went well with the trans red frame. By the way, the only other color was black...

Needless to say, but the bike was exactly how I wanted it.

Here's the initial build:

Frame: Rickard Bikes 21.5"

Forks: Odyssey R25 Bars: Eastern 9″ Tranny Bars Grips: Race Face Lock On Stem: S&M Race XLT 55mm Headset: Chris King Front Hub: Chris King 36 H

Rear Hub: Chris King 36H Cassette w/ 12T Cog Rims: Odyssey Aerospace 36 H Cranks: Profile Race 180mm Sprocket: Profile Imperial 33 T Pedals: Wellgo Magnesium Chain: Seat: S&M Fat Pivotal Post: Insight Pivotal Front Tire: Odyssey Aitken 2.35

Rear Tire: Primo Dirt Monster 1.95

After building a dedicated park and ramp bike, I decided to repurpose this one for dirt / race and swap the wheels out.

The second set of wheels are:

Front Hub: Chris King 36 H (Silver)

Rear Hub: Chris King 36H Cassette w/ 12T Cog (Silver) Rims: Sun Ringle CR18 36 H

Thank for taking the time to read this.

Oh yeah, and for the record, the seat has dropped tremendously since these pics were taken...
